I don't see if in America you have noticed it, but there is a growing phenomenon in India of people who are not exactly politicians. People from various areas in life, various walks, various areas of not exactly politicians coming onto the political scene and sowing minds of people which happened very recently in Punjab where Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is actually not a politician came from nowhere and he was on the center stage for nearly three years with a tremendous kind of consequence for the politics of the country. For example, down south in Andhra Pradesh, a man from the film industry, N.T. Rama Rao through the pressure of popularity... There is a new phenomenon, which is taking place in India, of non-political persons coming on the political scene influencing minds of the people, why do you think this is happening? What are the reasons?

But Bhagwan, there are other problems in India which are deeper down, I mean it's not at the level of bureaucracy, at the level of politics, yes. But beyond politics, beyond bureaucracy, the problem of a whole Asiatic society, which has been hypocritical, which has been trained to be hypocritical over the centuries. Look, I think this is a far more fundamental problem, which does not acknowledge the reality as it is in this country. What spiritual ways, what spiritual methods can be taken to change this oppression, to change the moral suppression?)

Indira Gandhi was the prime minister of this country for sixteen years. Does this in any way indicate a change in the status of women in India?
