=== Subtitle with The or the? ===
In the '''1977 editon''', the subtitle on the cover and title-page is written as "Talks on The Ten Bulls of Zen". (All other editions either have a small t or have allcaps.)
Our rule is to have the subtitles capitalized according to "title-case", as [[Help:Contents Books#Book page-names|specified here]]. So that would make "the" with a small t.
But if that "The" would be the first word of a book-title, then it would be a capital T. So is our subtitle referring to ''The Ten Bulls of Zen''? It seems not :
* References in the book, the introduction and it's flap text suggest it's about "10 Bulls" or "Ten Bulls", not "The Ten Bulls".
* References on the internet overwhelmingly speak about (drawings of) "Ten Bulls", not to "The Ten Bulls".
So: small t.

Subtitle with The or the?

In the 1977 editon, the subtitle on the cover and title-page is written as "Talks on The Ten Bulls of Zen". (All other editions either have a small t or have allcaps.)

Our rule is to have the subtitles capitalized according to "title-case", as specified here. So that would make "the" with a small t.

But if that "The" would be the first word of a book-title, then it would be a capital T. So is our subtitle referring to The Ten Bulls of Zen? It seems not :

  • References in the book, the introduction and it's flap text suggest it's about "10 Bulls" or "Ten Bulls", not "The Ten Bulls".
  • References on the internet overwhelmingly speak about (drawings of) "Ten Bulls", not to "The Ten Bulls".

So: small t.
