Revision as of 18:07, 13 February 2015

As mentioned in the article page, some uncertainty exists about which venue in Shree Rajneesh Ashram was used for Hindi discourses in Pune One. As of this writing, no reliable source has been found for this information. Anecdotal sources and memory suggest different things, and the announcements (of dates and venues) at the beginnings of discourse tapes have been expunged by Pune authorities, citing (as they do) Osho's guidance.

The CD-ROM does state venues but only for English original talks and those Hindi talks that had been translated as of 1993 or so, only about thirty and most of them preceding Pune One. As of the CD-ROM's creation, there were no Hindi series from 1977 that had been translated. Jagat Taraiya Bhor Ki (जगत तरैया भोर की) was translated shortly after the CD-ROM came out, but no cigar. We have to note that at the beginning of the Pune One period, neither Buddha Hall nor Chuang Tzu had been built, but the CD-ROM has the very first discourses in both English and Hindi in Buddha Hall, so the CD-ROM may have reliability issues as well.

A more in-depth exploration of this theme can be found at the page on these venues.

QUESTION: About a particular anomaly in the English series, I Say Unto You Vols 1 and 2: Article pages on Vols 1 and 2 discuss a certain mangling of data about how many and which discourse dates in each Vol. The timeline rendition (Osho Discourses 1977 article) seems to have adopted a new view again, ie unrelated to the possibilities discussed in the Vol 1 and Vol 2 articles, needs to be sorted out and/or explained here, istm. -- doofus-9 (talk) 19:00, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Ahhh,

well spotted Sarlo ! this turns out to be a dogs breakfast indeed :

The CD-ROM and the Wiki Timeline show

Vol 1 : ch 1 to 8
Vol 2 : ch 1 to 9

the CD-ROM headers show :

I Say Unto You, Vol 1
Talks on the Sayings of Jesus
Talks given from 21/10/77 am to 1/11/77 am
English Discourse series
10 Chapters

but only delivers 8 !! chapters between 21-Oct and 30-Oct (21,22,23,24,27,28,29,30)

and

I Say Unto You, Vol 2
Talks on the Sayings of Jesus
Talks given from 2/11/77 am to 10/11/77 am
English Discourse series
9 Chapters

and it delivers 9 as promised but the dates are actually from 31-Oct to 8-Nov !

FYI, the Timeline is not based on the CD-ROM, but on a audio/video database which i compiled in Poona 2 while i was working in the ashram. i continued that "project" back here in Australia when i looked after the commune library database. the commune had a complete english audiotape & videotape library in those days. so i trust that there were only ever 8 Vol 1 and 9 Vol 2 (original) tapes.

The books (which i don't have) show 19 chapters, two more than i would expect. what are they and where on the CD-ROM are they ?

SUGIT : can you please check all 19 first edition chapters against the CD-ROM and figure out where Vol 1, ch 9 & 10 belong to ??

Similar to the books, the audio discourses show

Vol 1 : ch 1 to 10
Vol 2 : ch 1 to 11

Here is the kicker:

Vol 2 ch 10 is a DUPLICATE of chapter 8, but is being announced as ch 10 !

and

Vol 2 ch 11 is a DUPLICATE of chapter 9, but is being announced as ch 11 !

so the tape mastering department must have just come from a drunken birthday party or what ?

i'm a bit confused, to say the least ;)
